“Limit everything to the essential, but do not remove the poetry.”
⏤ Dieter Rams
My understanding
It is such a perfect way to describe good design. It reminds me that simplicity doesn’t mean stripping away emotion. It’s about focusing on what truly matters, while still leaving room for beauty and meaning.
In my own work, I try to keep things clean and functional, but I never want them to feel cold. It’s the little details, the touches that speak to the heart, that make something special. Sometimes with colors, sometimes with words.
This quote reminds me that design isn’t just about solving problems. It’s about creating something people can connect with and feel.
