Self care isn’t selfish. It’s hard to take care of other people when you aren’t in a good place yourself.

My understanding

Taking care of myself isn’t selfish. It’s necessary. When I’m not in a good place physically, mentally, or emotionally, it becomes much harder to care for others.

Self-care isn’t about putting myself above others. It’s about ensuring I have the energy, patience, and strength to show up for the people I care about.

Self-care can look different for everyone. For me, it might mean getting enough sleep, eating healthy meals, or exercising regularly to keep my body strong. It could be setting boundaries, saying no when I’m overwhelmed, or taking time to rest without guilt. Sometimes, it’s as simple as reading a book, taking a walk, or talking to a friend. These small actions recharge me and allow me to give my best to others.

This quote is a reminder that self-care is not a luxury but a responsibility. By taking the time to recharge and address my needs, I’m better able to support others and handle life’s challenges.

Reminds me

  1. “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” from Gandalf in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring. Time is a precious resource, and how I use it matters.
